克罗地亚文化源远流长。克罗地亚人民已在该地区住了14个世纪，但该国早期的珍贵遗迹也保留了下来。由于地理位置特殊，克罗地亚代表了四种不同文化的交融。自从西罗马帝国和拜占庭帝国分裂，克罗地亚就一直受到东西方文化的双重影响，还受到中欧和地中海文化的影响。伊利里亚运动是克罗地亚民族文化史上最重要的时期，因为19世纪是克罗地亚语言解放、所有艺术文化空前发展的重要时期，出现了许多历史人物。
